Little Muskegon River

Little Muskegon River Professional Review and Guide

"Pleasant and scenic, the Little Muskegon receives little pressure because of its lack of shoreline camping options and log-strewn river corridor. In some ways, the Little Muskegon River is overlooked among Manistee National Forest rivers.

Whereas the Pine, the Pere Marquette, and the Manistee have emerged as major paddling destinations over the years—in part because of the numerous access sites and public campgrounds that are maintained along their shores—the unassuming Little Muskegon has chugged along in peaceful obscurity, relatively unnoticed but for a small contingent of western Michigan paddlers. This state of affairs is unlikely to change anytime soon, especially since the 1999 closure of the Little Muskegon Dispersed Camping Area, an attractive rustic camping facility that fell victim to local complaints about excessive partying."
