This is the only public access on shallow Sand Lake. The sites are sur- rounded by woods but open to the sky above. The boat access is carry-in only, making this best suited for canoes or kayaks. Unlike many national forest camps, this one does accept reservations though 22 sites still are first come, first served, and it actually has showers. For all those conve- niences the place itself is mostly for fishing or just a peaceful stay. The beach is sandy and shallow but becomes a muddy bottom not far out.
