Ess Lake State Forest Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Ess Lake is a quiet place with cottages and cabins dotting much of its shoreline. The campsites, located along the southern shore, are 2 loops in the woods with a boat ramp nearby. Anglers will prefer this place or just campers getting away from it all. The lake offers bass, trout, and panfish, while both Long Lake and Grass Lake are only 0.5 mile and 5 miles away, respectively, for more fishing options. This is Pigeon River Country, where Michigan’s elk herd may be spotted."
