Hines Drive Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Hines Drive is nearly legendary at this point. Frankie Andreu, former pro cyclist and Dearborn native, has trained here, as have many of the top racers in the state.

It’s ridden by just about every level of rider, from the casual coaster to the weekend wanderer to the hard-core bike racer. Groups fly by, or they slowly amble past, chatting away. There’s a parallel bike path that’s as popular as the road."

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"The Hines Drive Ramble follows the path of the Middle Rouge River through western Wayne County and some of the older, inner-ring Detroit suburbs. The ramble is an out-and-back ride, so riders can customize the distance to their liking and ability. The shops, restaurants, and cafes in pedestrian-friendly downtown Northville, an upscale community that hasn't forgotten its heritage, await at the end of the ride. Hines Drive is a linear park that winds its way through the western half of Wayne County. For city riding, it's hard to beat. On the 6-mile stretch closed to cars on summer Saturdays, you'll have plenty of company including other riders, both serious and recreational, in-line skaters, parents pushing strollers, and the occasional walk-for-a-cause group event. Besides the wide shoulder, there is also a bike path/sidewalk paralleling Hines. However, it's not as smooth or wide as the road. You'll be more comfortable and have a better view from the road. Terrain: Mostly flat. A couple small changes in grade." Read more

Not many cities can compete with this ride, you wouldn't know that your in a dense urban area. Avoid rush hour traffic times and it is great.
