Nubble Trail and Nubble Light

Nubble Trail and Nubble Light Professional Review and Guide

"A historical, picturesque lighthouse on an island close to a rocky shoreline park and viewpoint. At Cape Neddrick, red-and-white Nubble Lighthouse was built in 1879 on tiny Nubble Island, a very short distance from the mainland. “Nubble Light” is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine. Visitors can park and walk the rugged shoreline at Sohier Park directly opposite the famed lighthouse.

With your back to the welcome center, turn right and walk down the lawn to a small enclave of memorial rocks. Between them, a path cuts through wildflowers to sun-bleached granite ledges and splendid views looking south onto the open Atlantic. In spring, blue flags (wild irises) grow among the tall grasses, along with cinquefoil (five-petaled flowers) and some poison ivy—so keep to the trodden path."
