Carson Trail

Carson Trail Professional Review and Guide

"A well-designed, wide footpath through prime edge tidal habitats at the confluence of Little River, Branch Brook, and Merriland River. The ten Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge areas in Maine extend intermittently from Kittery on the Piscataqua River to Cape Elizabeth near Scarborough. The refuge parcels total 7,435 acres and include 50 miles of coastline. They are vital to preserving and ensuring habitat for waterfowl and migrating birds.

More than 250 species have been sighted. Although the refuge is vast, this is the only parcel with public access on the refuge flyway. Special Features: identification trail with stations, decks overlooking salt marshes, and universal accessibility with hard pack trails."
