More than a hike, this is a stroll around Fort Point. You walk through the site of Fort Pownal on your way to the shore where the lighthouse is perched atop a high bluff overlooking the mouth of the Penobscot River. The walk continues northwest along the shore to the end of the bluff where you can walk out of a gravel spit. The trail then passes through a wooded picnic area to a historic pier, then back to the trailhead.
