Moosehead Lake - Kennebec River Scenic Drive Professional Review and Guide
"A 125-mile scenic route through the Moosehead Lake region, the Moose River valley, and the Kennebec Valley in west-central Maine. Northwestern Maine is a rough, muscular land filled with lakes that pool in glacial depressions, swift rivers that tumble and foam over boulders and bedrock, rolling hills and lofty mountains, and dark, brooding forests. With more than 17 million acres of woodland, Maine is the most heavily wooded state in the nation. Forest covers almost 90 percent of the land here. It’s also very watery, with six thousand lakes and ponds and more than five thousand streams and rivers covering a full tenth of Maine’s 33,000- square-mile area.
Special attractions: Moosehead Lake, Mount Kineo, Moose River Valley, Kennebec River, Lily Bay State Park, Big Squaw Mountain, scenic cruises, mountain biking, river rafting, camping, hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing, fall foliage, scenic views, and ice fishing."
