Ragged Mountain Professional Review and Guide
"To snowshoe Ragged Mountain in Rockport is to be treated to commanding vistas of lakes, mountains, and the ocean. At 1,300 feet, the hulking mountain appears daunting as you gaze up at the huge boulders and rocky outcrops from the trailhead. But save for one moderate stretch up an old horse trail, the outing is a fairly easy undertaking to treasured views of the coast of Maine along a simple, well-marked path.
The Ragged Mountain section of the Georges Highland Path runs 9.0 miles from the base of Meadow Mountain, along Pleasant Mountain, over Spruce Mountain, and up Ragged Mountain. The blue-blazed trail leaves the Route 17 parking area by a signboard, down a few steps, and then begins to wind its way through the woods. The trail affords occasional views of Ragged through the trees, and several times passes old stone walls, reminders of the early settlers who once lived in the shadow of the mountain, which now has a radio tower on its summit."
