Breakwater Park

Breakwater Park Professional Review and Guide

"Rockland Harbor hosts a large number of gulls, ducks, and other waterbirds. The harbor is visible from a number of locations in Rockland, including the Maine State Ferry Terminal and the Rockland Town Landing. Of key interest here are Purple Sandpiper, winter visitors from the Arctic.

Look for these foraging among the huge granite blocks that form the breakwater, picking around seaweed for small marine creatures. Purple Sandpiper remain here at least until April. Common and King Eider may be visible from the breakwater in winter. Watch also for Great Cormorant."
