Aroostook State Park

Aroostook State Park Professional Review and Guide

"A hike up a double-peaked mountain, one of Aroostook County's two extinct volcanoes. Aroostook State Park is on the shore of Echo Lake, a popular 90-acre body of water that is managed for brook trout. The park features thirty wooded campsites and areas for boat launching, picnicking, and swimming. It also has a number of cross-country ski trails and a network of snowmobile trails.

Nearby attractions include the James School, a fully restored one-room schoolhouse, and Haystack Mountain, site of the first successful traps-Atlantic balloon crossing. General location: South of the town of Presque Isle in Aroostook County."

The trail was a bit steep at times, but the 1.25 miles was not enough for experienced hikers to feel like they have accomplished anything--left me wanting more.
It's a nice enough, tame trail. But for the avid hiker, your legs are left wanting more. My favorite two hikes in Maine are the Cutler Bold Coast and Great Wass Island.
