Bradbury Mountain Professional Review and Guide
"Bradbury Mountain State Park is crisscrossed with more than 20 miles of trails. Most of the trails are open to hikers, horses, mountain bikers, and cross-country skiers in the winter. The Summit Trail up to the open granite summit is one of the few hiker-only trails. The summit offers fine views east across the flat coastal plain to the ocean. The descent off the mountain follows two of the other hiker-only trails through mature forest that has grown up on former farmland.
In Britain there is an official definition of a mountain. To
be called a mountain, a landform has to be more than 2,000
feet high or stand out from the surrounding country by more than 500 feet. In the United States there used to be a similar definition, but it has fallen out of use. It’s almost too bad. If we still had to come up with other designations for less lofty landforms, we could use more descriptive names. Bradbury Mountain, for example, is only 485 feet high—not a mountain by either definition."
