Portland Trails—Presumpscot River Preserve Trail Professional Review and Guide
"A fun, challenging ride along the beautiful Presumpscot River. The Presumpscot River Preserve provides a serene diversion from the bustle of city life in Portland. The preserve is the newest addition to Portland Trails, an exceptional network of multi-use recreational pathways accessing nature preserves and sanctuaries, the Portland waterfront, and islands in Casco Bay. This trail traces the footsteps of Abenaki tribes who migrated to the river each spring to enjoy its abundant fishing.
From the Overset Road parking area, follow the Preserve Trail to the right of the Portland Trails sign. The path makes a brief, sharp descent from the trailhead, reaching a wooden bridge and junction at 0.1 mile. Stay left here, cross a second bridge, and continue descending the deep ravine leading to the river. The abrupt transition from suburban neighborhood to tranquil forest is remarkable."
