Lower Range Pond Professional Review and Guide
"On the right day, with the weather just threatening enough to keep most people away, Lower Range Pond is a real treat. The pond boasts crystal-clear water with sandy shores—superb for swimming— and the marshy coves teem with wildlife. We visited on a late afternoon midweek in August and had the place to ourselves. But you won’t find much solitude here on a nice summer weekend!
Judging from the size of the parking lots and restroom facilities, this place can be a real zoo. During our visit, we saw quite a variety of wildlife: a pair of loons with a well-developed chick, osprey, great blue herons, black ducks, kingfishers, kingbirds, spotted sandpipers, numerous fish, fresh-water mussels, and some fascinating invertebrates: bryozoa. Prominent fish species: smallmouth bass, white perch, yellow perch, and chain pickerel."
