Passamaquoddy Bay Ramble

Passamaquoddy Bay Ramble Professional Review and Guide

"This is what coastal New England cycling should be: great views, rolling terrain, minimal traffic. Take your pick of salt or fresh water, or make stops at both. This ride is guaranteed to send you back to the trusty DeLorme atlas for more rides in the area. You may even find yourself checking local real estate listings.

Start: Gleason Point Boat Launch, east of Perry and north of Eastport. “Passamaquoddy” probably means “plenty pollock jumping” or “plenty pollock jumping place.” The Passamaquoddy Bay separates Maine and New Brunswick, Canada, and fishing is still the livelihood for many residents. That’s Deer Island (New Brunswick) across the water at the beginning of the ride. Only the most dedicated Maine tourists make it this far “downeast,” so tourist traffic won’t be much of an issue here."
