Trout Brook Mountain Trail

Trout Brook Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide

"It may not be Katahdin, but children will nonetheless be proud to reach the peak of Trout Brook Mountain, as they should be. Even though this is one of the easier peaks to climb in the park, it is still challenging and a great deal of energy and determination are required to reach the summit. It’s worth it if you and your family have the stamina. At an elevation of 1767 feet, Trout Brook Mountain rewards you with outstanding 360-degree views of Baxter State Park.

After signing the register, begin climbing the trail leading to the top of Trout Brook Mountain. As you climb through a mixed forest following the blue blazes, have your kids look for wild strawberries and other tiny plants. The trail is rooty and rocky—sturdy shoes are a must. Be sure your children pay attention to the rock over which they are traveling.
Much of it was left by glaciers, and it is glacial drift (a platey type of rock carried by glaciers) or ground moraine (different-size material that dropped from the ice)."
