Day Mountain Trail

Day Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Of all the trails in Acadia, this one offers the closest views of the Cranberry Isles. It also features an off-the-beaten-path monument to French explorer Samuel Champlain, who gave Mount Desert Island its name. There are options to loop up or down portions of the Day Mountain carriage road, the last to be built in Acadia and the only one that goes up a summit.

Good things come in small packages, as this little hike proves. Day Mountain is only 583 feet high and a mere 0.8 mile from the trailhead, but it provides close-up views of the Cranberry Isles to the south and affords spectacular sunsets to the west."
