Baxter State Park Perimeter Road Trail

Baxter State Park Perimeter Road Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Exploring the pristine wilderness of Maine’s flagship state park on two wheels. Exploring Baxter State Park on two wheels is an interesting way to enjoy this pristine wilderness setting. Although bicyclers traveling within the park are restricted to maintained roads, the Perimeter Road (also known as the Park Tote Road) winds through excellent scenery, providing many opportunities to observe Baxter’s natural wonders.

To honor the provisions of the trust created by Percival Baxter, the park’s founder, the Perimeter Road is unpaved and relatively unimproved. It is composed of dirt and gravel and best suited to mountain bikers. The road extends for 41 miles, climbing and descending across several long, challenging grades, from the Togue Pond Gatehouse at the southern end of the park, to the northern gatehouse at Matagamon Lake."
