Borestone Mountain’s bare double summit is visible from as far south as Charleston even though the mountain is less than 2,000 feet high. The summit offers stunning views in every direction of the surrounding mountains and lake country. The hike climbs steadily through spruce to Sunrise Pond where there is a visitor center and museum. Once around the pond and past the Fox Pen Loop Trail, the hike climbs again. This second climb is steeper and rockier, ending in a section that involves some exposure.
