Monhegan Island Trail Professional Review and Guide
"From enchanted forests to rugged sea cliffs, spectacular hiking on one of Maine’s most beautiful islands. Monhegan is arguably one of the most enchanting destinations in all of Maine. Full of charm, yet devoid of pretense, the island seems to reflect the character of the state more than any other place. Though little more than a mile square, there are more than 7 miles of trails to discover, from quiet, captivating forest walks to rugged cliff jaunts with spectacular seaward views.
There are two major loops on the island including South Loop, which takes in Lobster Cove, Christmas Cove, Burnt Head, and White Head. The North Loop passes through a serene forest before emerging on Black Head and continuing around the island’s northern reaches. This trip combines portions of both loops for a 3-mile exploration of Monhegan’s most beautiful destinations."
