Russell Pond

Russell Pond Professional Review and Guide

"Scenic, pleasant out-and-back hike to a campground at a remote pond. Good views of Katahdin from the northeast. An overnight stay at Russell Pond is necessary. Special attractions: Unusual views of Mount Katahdin from north and east.

Moose, for which the park and much of Maine are justly famous, are common at Russell Pond. It is possible to see seven or eight moose at one time; in July cows with calves are sometimes seen. A camera is essential."
