Third Machias Lake Professional Review and Guide
"Paddling out from the boat access and indeed throughout most of the southwest arm of Third Machias Lake, one is taken by the number of beautiful, enormous granite boulders deposited at random by retreating glaciers. Many of them protrude well out into the lake, making this a very picturesque spot.
Most of the shoreline is covered with conifers that retreat up the hillsides into the distance, although there is a well-developed understory right at the water’s edge, consisting of small paper birches, red maples, and a variety of shrubs. Prominent fish species: smallmouth bass, white perch, and chain pickerel; eel in the fall at the outlet."
