Vaughn Island Trail

Vaughn Island Trail Professional Review and Guide

"An island preserve between Porpoise Cove and Turbats Creek connected at low tide to the mainland by a narrow tidal channel. Walking across Turbats Creek at low tide to Vaughn Island is an adventure. A few people from Kennebunk told us they used to wade across and explore the island after school. Today, this tidal island is preserved by the Kennebunk Land Trust for everyone to enjoy.

Children should be with an adult who understands tidal charts and the importance of “time and tide.” Depending on the height of the tide on the day of your outing, you’ll have about one hour on each side of low when Turbats Creek is shallow enough to wade across. Special Features: oak-forested island, low-tide discoveries, and gulls, cormorants, sea ducks."
