Number Four Mountain

Number Four Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"The trail up Number Four Mountain switchbacks up the steep-sided mountain with occasional views north of Big and Little Spencer Mountains. The trail levels out and crosses the summit ridge to the fire tower. You can climb the tower for a view, or continue another 0.1 mile to an open overlook with spectacular views east, south, and west.

In 2015 the state finished rebuilding the trail up Number Four Mountain. Bog boards were added to the wet section near the trailhead. Where a long line of bog boards skirts the boggy edges of Lagoon Brook, look for jack-in-the-pulpits carpeting the forest floor. This is the largest patch of these unique wildflowers I have found in Maine."
