Big Moose Mountain Professional Review and Guide
"At 3,196 feet, Big Moose Mountain dominates the skyline west of Moosehead Lake. The trail climbs through hardwood forests of beech and maple past the abandoned fire warden’s cabin. Beyond the cabin the trail climbs steeply up stone stairs for 0.2 mile. Above the stairs the trail climbs through spruce and fir to the open summit. The summit offers views across Moosehead Lake to Katahdin and the other mountains of Baxter State Park. To the north and west are views of endless wilderness dotted with mountains. More than ten other hikes in this guide are identifiable from the summit."
