Pineland East Gray / West Pownal

Pineland (East Gray / West Pownal) Professional Review and Guide

"A magnificent find not far from the acclaimed Pineland Estate (which no longer allows dogs). Two different trails add up to over 3.5 miles of exploring. Areas that are wet have been equipped with man-made bridges or large logs to walk on. This is designated State of Maine Public Reserve Land, near the Royal River. In places tree roots make the walking a bit of a challenge, so wear good shoes."

This is a great place for a walk in the woods in any season! Really beautifully maintained trails are closer to Pineland and the Ponds but on Depot Road back towards Gray there are 2 trails, nearly across the road from eachother, that are maintained by Pineland that are gorgeous - more hiking trails than the Pineland running trails. I love the timber bridges, access to the Royal River, and the varying types of trees from deciduous to coniferous. One winter my family hiked this and we bushwhacked around quite a bit on our snowshoes just soaking in the landscapes and following critter tracks. Highly recommend this hike! Easy parking on the side of the road, one side has a dark blue sign "pineland" and a parking area. Very kid friendly
