Berry Woods

Berry Woods Professional Review and Guide

"The Gamble Trail leads west over a low, wooded ridge to the Kennebec River. The channel of the Kennebec is broken by Marr and Lamb Islands—the main flow of the river is west of Marr Island. In the quiet shallows on the east side of the river, ducks and waterbirds are common. Few buildings break up the view.

The Gamble Trail leads toward the Kennebec River across low, rocky ridges. In several places storm-damaged trees lie strewn about. In the sunlight new growth, including blueberries, abound. After dropping down off a low hill, the trail follows an abandoned road south through mossy lowlands. Watch for the Kennebec River Lookout Trail on the right. It can be easy to miss. This trail down to the shore of the Kennebec River is wide, descending steadily through a mixed forest. On the shore of the river, there is a lookout with fine views up and down the Kennebec."
