The hike follows South Trail through evergreens along the most picturesque stone wall. The trail then drops down into a maple swamp with an understory of skunk cabbage. The trail continues all the way to the Goose River, but unfortunately is too wet to follow beyond the Swamp Trail. This trail cuts across to Middle Trail—it is often very wet as its name suggests. Middle Trail climbs back toward the trailhead through a mostly dry mixed forest with a variety of wildflowers in the understory.
