Bradbury Mountain State Park

Bradbury Mountain State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Great mountain biking exists just four miles from the popular outlet shopping center of Freeport, Maine. The ride begins on an easy doubletrack trail well marked with white blazes, and then enters a harder doubletrack on the Northern Loop Trail before embarking on the truly difficult Boundary Trail.

The Boundary Trail is a primitive singletrack along an old stone wall. The reward comes at the summit of Bradbury Mountain where one can survey the countryside and Casco Bay. Even without a mountain bike, the park and Bradbury Mountain make a great natural discovery just out of the shadow of commerce and tourism. Trail Surface: Doubletrack and singletrack, with rocks, loose surfaces, and sharp grade changes to watch out for"

My Vermont friend and I went mountain biking and had a terrific outing. This location has extraordinary trails to challenge the well experienced mountain biker. Upon returning home, I thought that because these trails are for both bikers and hikers - it seems that mountain bikers' wear and tear on them has been greatly accelerated and most likely will promote severe erosion. I am wondering if there could be a simple plan drawn up for delineating use of these fabulous trails on one of southern Maine's natural treasures.
Great warm up on the Knights Woods loop. Gets more technical around the Boundry trail. Trail worn down so roots and rocks are really popping up. Not for the inexperienced rider. Had to be very cautious of hikers with small children coming down the Northern loop trail but a nice clear descent compared to challenges on the way up. I wouldn't reccommend the serious rides on the weekends due to hikers and children.
Bradbury mountain starts out as a snowmoblie trail with a gradual climb. As you appraoch the top it sections off into two gfreat single tracks. To the right you have a fast single track with some technical stuff in the middle. This route ofers two fast downhills. If you take a right they have carved out a brand new really technical single track, it is a lot slower of a ride than the other trail, but offers you a chance to work on your skills. You can ride both tracks in about an hour, and when you are done you can climb up the other side of the mountain for a really great view of the Yarmouth area.
