Old Blue Mountain Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Old Blue Mountain hike starts off with a grueling climb up the side of the mountain, so be prepared. You’ll be rewarded with some epic views.

The trailheads for Old Blue Mountain and Moody Mountain are on either side of South Arm Road. Th is long, winding road leads out of the town of Andover and into the unincorporated townships in northwestern Maine. Th e parcel of land is actually called North Andover Surplus. Th is is remote territory. Make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas, there are no mechanical issues, and you have some food and water. It’s not the end of the world, but if you do have any troubles out here, help will be a long time coming. And it is extremely unlikely that you will have a cell signal.

The first hour of the Old Blue Mountain hike scrambles up the side of a steep, rocky cliff. This initial section of the Old Blue Mountain Trail is arguably the most dangerous hiking described in this book. A fall here would be extremely hazardous, as the cliff is steep and punctuated with trees and rocks."
