Lamoine State Park

Lamoine State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"What do you do when Acadia National Park is packed? Head a bit farther north to Lamoine State Park, which is just far enough away to allow you to escape the swarms of Acadia-area campers and travelers during the summer. Most of the sites at the park, which overlooks the waters of Frenchman Bay toward Bar Harbor, have a very open feel.

The view of the ocean and the nearly constant cool breezes give Lamoine State Park an easy combination of pastoral serenity and seaside appeal. The whole gestalt here is that of being on a windswept, coastal bluff—which you are! It’s a bit different from the wooded campgrounds to which I usually gravitate, but wild and beautiful nevertheless."

We stay at Lily Bay every year for vacation, usually in the month of July. This year will be our 4th year. There are two sides to the campground, tents - RV's (no kids-kids); although it's not uncommon to to see a few on either side. I love to stay on the water and pitch a tent for the week but it's hard to get the water sites, we've got lucky twice. That's one thing that frustrates me about this park though; every year that we have gone up we had to settle on our 3rd or 4th pick because they said the sites we wanted were taken. However every single year there has been no one on those sites. Other than that I love the campground, it's 15 minutes to downtown Greenville and a great in the middle location to a lot of trails. My favorite characteristic of Lily Bay is that they are strict on their rules. They rangers are very friendly and leave you alone as long as you play by the rules; quiet after 10pm, dogs on a leash and quiet, etc.. which means that everyone can relax and enjoy being there. I would definitely recommend this campground to anyone looking for a great nuetral location to stay and that doesnt look like a chuckee cheese when you pull in.
