Shackford Head juts out into Cobscook Bay on the west side of Eastport. The hike passes through mixed forests over crumbling rhyolite bedrock. The cliffs along the shore are as high as 140 feet. The hike descends to Ship Point where you can stand on rocks just above the water with views of Cobscook Bay and the high cliffs you just hiked across. Even though this is an area of working waterfront, the hike offers surprising solitude and opportunities for spotting wildlife.
