Peaked Mountain

Peaked Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"A hike on an old forest road and up a steep trail to the rocky summit of a mountain. The exposed granite face of Peaked Mountain, also known as Chick Hill, is visible for miles around. The views from the summit are some of the best in the area. General location: East of Brewer near the town of Clifton, Penobscot County, Downeast Maine."

The trail is now a road. Apparently when they installed the new cell tower they made the existing trail into a viable road. It is still a wonderful hike, but the guide books are inaccurate. If you follow the directions you are more likely to take a wood path over to Little Chick Hill and miss the amazing view waiting for you on top of Peaked Mountain/Chick Hill. The road is a steady climb up a gravel road. The hike itself is pretty bland, but again, the view at the end is amazing.
Also known as Chick Hill, this climb has great views for a little bit of effort. I usually take about a half-hour to an hour to get to the top depending on my mood. From the top you can see Acadia National Park to the south and the mountains around Tunk Lake to the south-east. Sometimes if the weather is good you can see Katahdin to the north. Not a bad hike, only a short drive outside of Bangor.
