Two Lights State Park

Two Lights State Park Professional Review and Guide

"This hike is an easy ramble around the perimeter of Two Lights State Park. You pass the remnants of a World War II gun emplacement and a rocky shoreline of broken shale. The bedrock here is parallel to the coast, creating a very different headland than any to the north.

The first things you are likely to notice in Two Lights State
Park are the grass-covered bunker along the shore and the cylindrical tower on a rise inland. Both are remains of a World War II gun emplacement built to help protect Portland. The war ended before the gun emplacement was finished. The bunker housed the command center, and the tower was an observation post where soldiers would have scanned the Gulf of Maine for enemy ships and submarines."
