Pocomoonshine, Mud, and Crawford Lakes

Pocomoonshine, Mud, and Crawford Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"We recommend that you not try this entire trip in the late summer or anytime when water is low. Below Crawford Lake, we had to walk our boats for about three miles through boulder-laden riffles, seriously scratching our shins and boats to about the same degree.

In the spring during higher water, you supposedly can sail right through this stretch. According to the AMC River Guide, the modest rapids are suitable for people with limited whitewater experience. Prominent fish species: smallmouth bass, white perch, and chain pickerel; largemouth bass in the river; eel at the outlet dam on Crawford Lake. These two lakes are considered among the best smallmouth bass lakes in Maine."
