Brownfield Bog Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A relaxing paddle on a beautiful, quiet bog within the Saco River watershed. Brownfield Bog is a wonderful place to float among island hummocks, wander through weedy channels, or simply drift and ponder the natural world. The going is often slow, but that’s its charm.
Just being here is the point. This is a place for relaxation, and a perfect refuge in summer, when battalions of boaters often crowd the Saco River nearby. The bog is a state-owned Wildlife Management Area encompassing 5,700-acres of wetland habitat, including emergent marshes, shrub wetlands, and, of course, bogs. The best time to paddle here is early morning or dusk, when you’re more apt to encounter wildlife including deer, beaver, a wide variety of waterfowl, and the occasional moose."
