Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Fields Pond Audubon Center features include walking trails through fields and woodlands and a 300foot boardwalk through a floodplain swamp. The wheelchair-accessible Nature Center Building is open to the public admission-free. The center contains informative displays and a shop where you can buy such items as binoculars and field guides.

The sanctuary features weekly natural history programs, nature walks, and field trips year-round and seasonal day camp programs for children. Of the more than 148 species noted at the center, 79 are common here and are likely to be seen (or heard) in season. Among these are Bald Eagle, Osprey, American Bittern, Great Blue Heron, Northern Harrier, Virginia Rail, Spotted Sandpiper, Chimney Swift, Pileated Woodpecker, Marsh Wren, Eastern Bluebird, and Baltimore Oriole. Add to these a number of warblers and waterbirds. Look for Bobolink and Savannah Sparrow around the fields. Nesting species at the center include American Bittern, Black-backed Woodpecker, and Bluewinged Teal."

The spring warbler migration is a productive time to visit, but a great many other landbased birds spend the summer here but the good viewing does not end with the fall migration. A great variety of birds are in residence in winter.
