Ovens Mouth Preserve

Ovens Mouth Preserve Professional Review and Guide

"Three miles of moderate hiking lead through pleasant woodlands and along the salt marshes, tidal rivers, and basins of the secretive Ovens Mouth.

Ovens Mouth is home to a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, ducks, wading birds, otters, and harbor seals. Once almost entirely cleared for farm and pasture land, a large portion of the forest canopy on the heavily wooded property is now composed of eastern white pine. Five miles of trails wend through Ovens Mouth Preserve, tracing a route around the shoreline of both peninsulas and crisscrossing the interior, allowing for extensive exploration of its woodlands, coves, and salt marshes. From the information kiosk at the western trailhead, take the wide trail easily uphill through the oak-and-pine forest, following white and blue blazes."
