Ovens Mouth

Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Ovens Mouth Professional Review and Guide

"The Eastern Shore Loop follows the shore of Cross River— what appears to be a lake surrounded by evergreens but is actually a bay. The trail reaches a rocky point where the river flows out into this bay. The river’s narrow channel between rock walls is the Ovens Mouth.

The tidal current carries water in or out of the bay at an astonishing speed. A bridge over an inlet connects the Ovens Mouth East and West Trails. The return hike on the Eastern Loop follows along the edge of a marsh at the head of the inlet."
