Sunday River Ski Resort Professional Review and Guide
"With eight peaks, Sunday River is a leader among New England ski resorts due to consistently good-quality snow and an efficient lift system that results in short lines. The resort is a self-contained facility in the western mountains of Maine, near the classic ski town of Bethel, three hours north of Boston and 1.5 hours west of Portland, Maine. First opened in 1958 with skiing on Barker Mountain, Sunday River was a sleepy ski area when the relatively unknown upstart Les Otten bought it in 1980.
It stays so late, in fact, that every May 1 is a free ski day at the mountain. The nearby town of Bethel offers a movie theater and a mix of pottery stores, antique shops, and gem stores (the Bethel region is renowned for its tourmaline). This chapter contains a thorough description of the resort including how to get there, mountain statistics, trail profiles, lodging, dining, nightlife, and entertainment."
