Moose Point State Park

Moose Point State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Moose Point, a small seaside jewel in Maine’s state park system, lies about one-third of the way between Camden Hills State Park and Acadia National Park. It’s one of those places that people heading for the better known parks routinely bypass. But that’s their loss. Moose Point is never crowded and offers fine birding, as well as some hiking and picnicking.

In May the woodland trails at Moose Point are good spots to see migrating warblers, Hermit Thrush, Wood Thrush, and Veery. Additionally, look for year-round species here such as Black-capped Chickadee, Blue Jay, common crows, and ravens. Great Horned Owl and Barred Owl sometimes visit Moose Point, hunting for snowshoe hares and other small rodents. But the main attraction here is the rocky seashore. Here a variety of sea ducks are visible, as are Double-crested Cormorant, several kinds of gulls, Common Loon, Osprey, and the occasional Bald Eagle."
