Best trail to Baxter Peak. Many & varied views--Penobscot River valley, hills around Mt. Katahdin, a small water fall, many lakes & Cadillac Mt. (on crystal clear days). Trail surface is mostly good, except for the long stretch of climbing over & around BIG boulders. The view along that stretch more than compensate for the effort. The entire trail is moderately strenuous. My 8 yo daughter (a born hiker) enjoyed it. I did it again when 64 yo (the most enjoyable of my many, many ascents). Pack plenty of water & clothing for ALL weather conditions. The summit can be 45F or so with gusty winds while the trailhead is 75F and calm. Worse, days that start gloriously frequently turn rainy. Whatever the weather, the Hunt Trail is always enjoyable if one comes well prepared.
