Gorham Mountain Trail

Gorham Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This is a classic Acadia hike to a 525-foot peak with sweeping views of Great Head, Sand Beach, Otter Cliff, Champlain Mountain, and the Beehive. The trail, among the most traveled in the park, is also one of the most historic, dating back to the early 1900s and the Great Depression. The hike includes a spur trail to Cadillac Cliffs and an ancient sea cave.

The Gorham Mountain Trail, marked by blue blazes and historic Bates-style cairns, takes hikers to some of the most rewarding views in Acadia, with nearly uninterrupted ridgetop panoramas of everything from Great Head and Sand Beach to the Beehive, and from Cadillac Mountain to Dorr Mountain. The trail follows the great ridge that runs north all the way to Champlain Mountain and is the closest to the ocean of all of Acadia’s mountain ridges."

Excellent relatively easy hike with beautiful views of Sand Beach, Great Head, and the ocean. Lots of prime mountain blueberries and huckleberries that the kids all enjoyed.

Enjoyable hike when looking for an easier hike. Great views from the summit. I recommend taking the Cadillac Cliffs Trail on the ascent and returning the whole way on the Gorham Mountain Trail. Lots of "rock-hopping" on Cadillac Cliffs to keep it interesting.

Very easy hike. Took about 40 min to the summit of Gorham. Great views from there though... If you continue to "the bowl" its another 40 min but also very nice small lake inbetween peaks. "The beehive" took another 30 minutes to get up. From there almost the same views as Gorham but very nice just the same. We took the steep trek back down the beehive to the coast which I would recommend going up that way and down the other way. Altogether a great somewhat easy yet rewarding half day hike.
