Ship Harbor is a small cove, connected to the ocean by a narrow, granite-lined channel. The cove is a roughly round, shallow pool surrounded by dense forest. The hike follows the shore of Ship Harbor to the rockbound coast. There is no beach at the shore, only a jumble of broken granite and low cliffs. Fingers of forest extend out into the jumble of rock. Visible in the distance are Great Gott Island, and farther east the Cranberry Islands. It is perhaps the most iconic landscape in Acadia National Park.
