NCRR Trail–Torrey Brown

NCRR Trail–Torrey Brown Professional Review and Guide

"Choose what length hike you want to take and go—logical, well-spaced turnaround points and parking areas make this the perfect trail for anything from a quick walk to an all-day trek. The entire NCRR Trail covers some 40 miles. I especially like the section described below because it avoids the crowds that frequent the trail’s southern terminus and the suburban feel that too often encroaches on its northern sections in Pennsylvania.

The trail itself resulted from one of the better ideas in recreation: turning abandoned rail beds into hiking and biking trails. European settlers came here as early as the 1600s, and by the mid-1800s an established rail line bisected the stream valley, linking Baltimore with the northern industrial states. Union troops were stationed here during the Civil War."
