Two Creeks of Maryland Ramble

Two Creeks of Maryland Ramble Professional Review and Guide

"When it comes to development of off-road multiuse trails, Prince George’s and eastern Montgomery Counties in Maryland are quickly catching up with their neighbors. This ride connects two off-road trails along Sligo Creek Parkway and the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River, each traversing bucolic parks.

They are particularly worth exploring if you live in the area and bicycle with a young family. The quiet, 5-mile-long Northwest Branch is a good venue to graduate youngsters from training wheels. Things to see: Historic mill, woodlands, suburban neighborhoods."

Great for anyone who enjoys long bike path routes. I like riding this route with my seven-year-old son because it is long and varied enough to be interesting but avoids the heavy traffic that has made finding safe routes in the DC area so challenging in recent years. You have the option of riding on the road for long stretches of the Sligo Creek section and can jump back on the bike path if traffic gets too heavy. The only problem with this route is that the Northwest Branch trail ends abruptly -- it would be great to continue the multiuse path north to connect with Wheaton Regional Park and the trailhead of the Sligo Creek path.
