We started in Hancock, MD, and rode to the end of the WMRT, then crossed over to the C&O Canal Trail down to Fort Frederick. Crossed back over to the WMRT for our return to Hancock. WMRT was a nice, smooth asphalt trail used by a lot of folks--mostly families. Close to roads and not a lot of scenery along the trail. C&O is a rougher dirt & rock trail but more scenic. Hancock Super 8 was a good (not great) hotel--comfortable bed, good breakfast, and close to the trail head. Weavers restaurant in Hancock was a great place to eat, whether staying overnight or just passing through. C&O bike shop was very friendly and accommodating--even open until 6 pm on Labor Day!

This is a easy ride, however the trail has been extended beyond Hancock and the 1-way length is 23.5 miles. We did the entire 47 and enjoyed it. The grade is easy in both directions. The views are beautiful.
