Parkers Creek Loop, American Chestnut land Trust

Parkers Creek Loop, American Chestnut land Trust Professional Review and Guide

"This hike offers a combination of upland forest, transitional hillsides of holly trees and pines, wetland woods, and the broad marsh along Parkers Creek. There are first-rate interpretive signs along the Double Oak Farm Trail section. It is hard to prefer one time of year over another to visit the Parkers Creek Loop, but it is also hard to imagine a better place to spend a late autumn morning. The understory has opened for winter, revealing views of Parkers Creek marsh while you are still deep in the woods. The last of the migratory birds darken the sky above the marsh like a pointillist moving picture, the final colors of the canopy perform hanggliding routines from the ledges. With the pace of growth in Calvert County, it is hard to say what the landscape out on MD 4 will look like in 2020. Fortunately, along this stretch of Parkers Creek watershed, nature will have the say in what types of changes transpire. Special considerations: Check for hunting schedule in season, especially on trails traversing private land."
