Billy Goat Trail Sections A and B

Billy Goat Trail: Sections A and B Professional Review and Guide

"Offering close-up views of the thundering Great Falls as well as calmer sections of the Potomac River, the Billy Goat Trail is a favorite for local hikers. It has three segments: A (1.7 miles), B (1.4 miles), and C (1.6 miles). Each section connects to the C&O Canal Towpath and can be hiked independently with a return loop along the towpath. Part A is the most challenging and most popular. Parts B and C are mostly level and less crowded.

This 8-mile hike includes about 2 miles of challenging rock scrambling and 6 miles of easier terrain. It begins on the C&O Canal Towpath near Great Falls Tavern, follows sections A and B along the river, and then returns on a level path combining the towpath with a 1.5-mile loop along Berma Road, an old conduit road that parallels the canal. The hike is challenging and offers a variety of views and terrain."
