Billy Goat Trail Section A

Billy Goat Trail Section A Professional Review and Guide

"Follow the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath and waterway, a National Historic Park, before heading into the woods to clamber your way through a giant boulderfield playground, all while getting views of the mighty Potomac River and deep Mather Gorge—typically littered with kayakers, paddleboarders, and rappellers.

The Billy Goat Trail is just downright fun! Although a bit of a drive, it’s well within reach of Baltimore. It utilizes the C&O Canal towpath, a National historical Park that runs 184.5 miles in total from Washington, DC, to Cumberland, Maryland."

This is an awesome trail, especially if you enjoy rock scrambling--so wear good hiking shoes. Although it's a great trail for the agile and adventurous, it's probably not that great for little kids or for anyone unsteady on their feet because there is a ton of climbing involved and some tricky areas in water. There are gorgeous views of the Potomac and many opportunities for beautiful photos.
